Does that mean I don't need to pay the $18?

If you bought the previous version before the $18 dollar price, are you still able to play the game without paying that price or do you need to pay for any future updates?

It actually won't let me, everytime I try Pixeldrain, the install just cancels itself with no warning

I am unable to download the game, and by that I mean through the install button on Itch.io. How can I download the game as both the google drive and dropbox won't connect and I'm unsure about using Pixeldrain.
